Online shops & budget
How much does an online shop cost?
The short answer
MakeMorrow quotes online shops individually. The cost depends on the platform, product range, design, migration and integrations. Budget separately for development and recurring platform, app, payment and maintenance costs. The one-off website packages are not online shop prices.
What makes up the total cost?
An online shop combines a public website with an ordering process and daily operations. Compare quotes for the same deliverables: product setup, payment configuration, shipping rules and handover all take work, even when they are less visible than the design.
| Part | Cost type | What to agree |
|---|---|---|
| Design and development | One-off | Pages, templates, revision rounds and features |
| Product setup or migration | One-off or additional work | Products, variants, images and existing URLs |
| Platform and apps | Recurring | Plan, paid features and app subscriptions |
| Payments | Usage dependent | Provider, methods and transaction fees |
| Maintenance and content | Recurring or on request | Support, updates and changes |
Which requirements make a shop more complex?
A small range with simple variants has different needs from a catalogue connected to stock, accounting and several sales channels. The number of products alone is not enough to determine the price: the quality of the supplied data and the way products must be grouped also matter.
- Product variants, bundles, subscriptions or personalisation.
- Languages, currencies and selling regions.
- Shipping rules and required payment methods.
- Connections to stock, accounting or marketing systems.
- Migration of content, products and existing search URLs.
What does building a Shopify store involve?
Shopify is one of the platforms MakeMorrow can use. We first check whether its product management, checkout and available integrations fit your needs. The platform subscription is separate from the design and setup work.
Paid themes, apps and payment fees can add to the operating cost. Check the current official pricing and the terms of the specific apps and payment provider. Agree which accounts belong to you and who handles subscription invoices.
How do you budget beyond launch?
List the one-off setup, twelve months of fixed subscriptions, expected transaction fees and planned support or content work. This separates a launch budget from operating costs. Payment costs depend on sales and the selected methods, so a fixed monthly allowance needs to be treated as an estimate.
Keep advertising and product costs separate from the website budget. A finished checkout does not by itself bring customers to your store. Decide how shoppers will discover your products and what you need to measure.
How can you get a useful shop quote?
Send the number and type of products, examples of variants, selling regions, payment and shipping requirements, and the systems you already use. Tell us whether you have an existing shop and which product data, photography and copy are ready.
Ask for the included work, separate third-party fees, testing and handover to be specified. For an example of our ecommerce design work, explore By Dash Beauty. The case shows the project and presentation; it is not a promise of sales results.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a fixed MakeMorrow online shop price?
No. Online shops receive a tailored quote after the product range, design and required features have been discussed.
Are Shopify and app subscriptions included in the build price?
Do not assume they are. Platform, app and payment costs are identified separately in the proposal.
Can an existing shop be migrated?
We assess the existing platform and data first. Product migration, URL redirects and integrations are scoped and quoted separately.
